Betty Raymond
Painter
About the artist
Much of Betty Raymond’s early work was done predominately in oils but she decided to try her hands with acrylics a few years ago. She also enjoys trying new techniques, not necessarily involving the use of paints, and has recently undertaken making roses using cold porcelain clay.
Although Raymond has taken a few evening courses over the years, she’s mostly self taught, generally learning from her mistakes as she goes, “of which there are many,” she says.
Her favourite painting is a winter landscape she completed last year. It was one of those attempts that seemed to assume a life onto itself as she went along.
Although Raymond has not received any formal awards, she said she was lucky enough to sell a painting which currently hangs in a prestigious investment company located in downtown Toronto.
The only advice she can give to potential artist is “enjoy what you’re doing and keep learning as you go,” she says.
