moments show logoBuilding on the success of our beautiful new AQW Gallery since its opening on June 15, 2012, Arts Quinte West and the Gallery Committee is proud to announce plans for its first juried show.  The theme for the show is:  “Moments”.

The competition is open to both members of AQW and non-members from a number of area sister art associations (Brighton Arts Council, Belleville Arts Association, Spirit of the Hills) have been invited to enter. For the price of registration ($30 for two works) non-members and students (student rate is $20 for two works) will also gain a pro-rated membership in AQW until March 2013.  Members pay $20 for two works and all members in all media --- whether beginners or professional --- are encouraged to apply.

Our team of judges includes two well-known area artists:  Milé Murtanovski (visit website)  and Pamela Carter (visit website)  both of Prince Edward County.  To assist the judges, you will be asked to provide a brief statement describing how your work fits with the theme.  Selected works will be exhibited at the Gallery from October 31, 2012, to December 1, 2012.  A special prize will be given for the work deemed “Best in Show” by the panel, and AQW is very fortunate to have been provided with a $150 Gift Certificate to Wallack’s Art Supplies in Kingston as the prize.

Submission and jurying will occur on one busy day, Saturday October 27, 2012, between 9 am and 4 pm, with the show opening on Wednesday October 31, 2012 and ending on Saturday, December 1, 2012.  Artists drop off their work in the morning, between 9 am and noon, the judges get to work selecting enough pieces for the show between noon and 3 pm, and then any artwork not chosen is retrieved between 3 and 4.  It’s an exciting time for those artists whose work is chosen, but the process also provides the opportunity for those not in the show to have a brief one-on-one with the judges for advice and comment.  An opening reception will be held in the 84 Dundas Street, West, Gallery between 6:30 and 8 on Thursday, November 1, 2012.

All media are welcome, including acrylic, oil, watercolour, pastel, mixed media, collage, pencil, charcoal, ink, fibre, sculpture, photography, clay, glass, encaustic, etc.
